A visit to the local big box store o' stuff

First: there were soundtracks for the t.v. series 'Whistler'. WTF? This Canadian show, to my knowledge, has only been shown here in the US on some obscure cable channel once (and I discovered it was shown at all too late.) I only know about it because I wanted to know what Ingrid Kavelaars was doing lately, and discovered it's chock full of other actors I like, like Nicholas Lea. (so if anyone has it and would like to share? I'd love you) It's not on DVD here. So WHY is there a soundtrack? Or, more to the point, why were there FOUR COPIES of the soundtrack for a t.v. show that maybe a handful of people in the whole CITY have seen? *blink blink*

Second: I did not realize that Robin of Sherwood has finally been released on DVD here. WOOT! When I was in the UK many years ago, I bought it, tragically not understanding the difference between Region 1 and Region 2. So I'm all excited to see it, for I have many fond memories. (and it will probably not hold up under my rosy glow of nostalgia, but I'm going to watch anyway).

Third: the anime section is going to take over all DVD soon. It used to be one group of shelves next to the sci-fi, now it's an entire row all by itself. (I saw Appleseed, btw; interesting, but I'm glad I waited til cable)

Fourth: I'm still irritated every time I see the SG-1 slimpaks that we can't exchange the packaging. I would gladly ship all my giant boxes to MGM and get the slimpaks instead -- I have the discs for the first eight seasons in a case right now (and the packaging taking up vital action figure space in the garage). Functional but not very pretty. Stupid MGM.

I think you can see Whistler on line at CTV. I was just there looking for info about S2, and I saw some links to S1 eps. You do know that Tahmoh is going to guest star for at least four eps in S2, right? They should get shown in the US on "The N" which is nighttime Noggin. We don't get Noggin, but they play Noggin shows on our Comcast "on-demand."

yes, I saw that about Tahmoh (I knew about the show before that, but that kind of re-ingnited my interest - can't imagine why *g*). The eps are still there? huh. I thought the window had passed, so I didn't look. I will wander over there and check it out then, thanks!

I just tried and the eps will only show from CTV in Canada. Fair enough given that US networks do the same to other countries. Why don't you PM me at Kindreds, because I have another option that I works at least for now.

So true about the slimpacks. Doesn't even have to be an exchange. I'd pay a few bucks for the covers, so I could throw out my oversized ones. -sigh-

yeah me too. Or even some special case if they didn't want to give out the same packaging as the official releases. I have color copies of the sides of the boxes at the front of each season in my dull black disk keeper, so I know which ep is on which disk. It works, but it's all so UGLY. *cries*

Awww. Yeah, the bigger boxes are annoying (I'm glaring at the Farscape ones, at the moment). At least most everything else is slim-packed.

oh thank GOD I waited for the Starbust collection for FS. I have only one individual disk and then I gave up. And there was no way I was buying those huge boxed sets. I figured that if the DVDs weren't taking up less space than the tapes, they were pretty useless.
