BSG 3x13: Taking a Break...
The episode title is too long for what's actually in this episode.

Why, oh why, did they not use the Caprica - Roslin scene IN the episode? It must have been a last minute thing, since it had underscore and everything. That would've been so much better.

It would've raised a few questions, I suppose -- like how did Caprica even know Baltar was there? And why wasn't Roslin torturing Caprica instead? But still, it was a stronger scene, and would've broken up the Baltar Boringness (Water, and darkness, and not even any Chip!Six being sultry to add some visual interest. Callis was performing his ass off, I give him that, but nothing we didn't know. The only thing I thought he said of any wider significance was informing Adama and Roslin that he doesn't know who the Final Five are). Caprica and Roslin? Different. Interesting. Actual conflict. OMG how gleeful am I that Caprica didn't buy Roslin's "word" for one second?

And ahem, instead of talking about what was NOT in the episode but should've been I guess I should talk about what was there.

lyssie is my brain twin, y'all. Go read her comments on the Quadrangle. What she said: Squee and thinkiness both. I'll just add a few thoughts.

One, please, can we get a rest from the "significant pining looks" for a while? Please? Can we let everyone be an adult and stick to their choices for more than a minute and a half?

Two, Sam knew two things that surprised me (pleasantly, but it was still a surprise). He knew about Leoben "the fake husband", and he knew about the "destiny" thing which Kara told Helo. The first I like because that's something Kara must have told him, and since I was doubtful that she would tell anybody about what went down in Leoben's Funhouse, I'm happy that she told him something about it. The second is a bit more interesting, to me. It was not that long ago, only last episode, that Kara was reminded about Leoben's 'destiny' words. But Sam wasn't there; Helo was. So that's another thing that Kara told Sam about (maybe with an assist from Helo?). And since it's not exactly a common topic of conversation, she almost had to have brought it up to him. Both things in turn suggest an intimate, sharing aspect to their relationship which we've not really seen, but on a show like this where intimacy/relationships in general play off screen, it's a big one, I thing. It shows that Kara and Sam do more than just have sex, that they really can function as husband and wife, if they give each other a chance.

(and even if it later comes out that they just forgot that Sam didn't know, I don't care)

Three, Sam, sweetie, try not to let Kara drink you under the table, okay? I know you're having fun and it's so cute, but it's really not good for your marriage. Though I suspect Sam's been building up some tolerance to drink these past few weeks/months waiting for Kara to get her act together.

And on the "OMG NOT the Quadrangle" side of things: Gaeta. Baltar knew how to twist it, didn't he? He couldn't know about Collaborators, and how Gaeta very nearly died for his sins on NC. And he holds Baltar responsible for that, too -- not just New Caprica and collaborating with the Cylons. And a bit of guilt that maybe he didn't do more or at least that he was so blind and naive following Baltar to begin with. All the above. Baltar's really lucky to be alive. Only Baltar's massive egotism made him believe that Gaeta was there to help him, to begin with. Anyone with an ounce of empathy would've wondered why GAETA, of all people, would come in all friendly -- considering one of the last things Gaeta did was hold a gun on him.

Once again proving that fans get all wound up about scenes taken out of context, Roslin's fury at Baltar was a show. Though Baltar "waking up in the goo" did trick my hubby -- so heh. It happens so rarely, it makes me all smug.

But YAY, Roslin remembered that making Baltar 'disappear' was exactly what she had opposed in Collaborators. And Zarek's back next week, to tell her that the decision is still stupid. But it's consistent, at least, and that pleases me.

So is Zarek still Vice President? Does Roslin even have one?

Anyway, I loved the Kara-Anders (they talk! they laugh! He doesn't want to give up, but will step aside if that's what she really wants, he says he loves her, and she holds her tags!). And Lee was too uncertain with Kara and lost his chance. For the rest of the season, if not forever, if the PTB are kind.

Now let's move on to some other things, Ron.

I have tried like 6 times and it never downloads right, plus the firewall blocks it at work-ugh!

Oh, that sucks. It's a very brief scene continuing the one that was the scene at the end of the ep, when Roslin comes into Caprica's cell. After Caprica says, "like you gave Leoben your word?" Laura sits there. Then online it continues-- Caprica gives her an alternate deal, "You give Gaius a trial, and I'll tell you whatever you want to know." Laura gets up and leaves.

Thinking about it more, I really only wanted the first part in the ep. I can see why they took out the extended bit. So later when Roslin gave Baltar his trial it wouldn't look like she did it BECAUSE of Caprica's offer.

1. BUT DON'T YOU KNOW there must always be pasted on Kara/Lee?

3. He had a whole year of her on NC to build up an immunity, and then four months of Chief's rotgut to get even better, since that was all he had to get to sleep at night with.

3a. And Saul Tigh isn't arount to drag funny Locker Room Stories out of him. (Oh, damn, now I miss Ellen again. Sigh)

1. This is true. But all I ask is just for a few episodes it goes AWAY!

3. well, technically, Saul is around, but I don't see him and Sam hanging out and drinking together anymore, no.

1. I second SM, down below, though. omg.

3. I... kind of want him and Sam to have a conversation about it. Or, failing that, Dad to be all, "so... you're married to my estranged daughter, and you killed my best friend's wife."

Or, y'know, Sam and Dad to just be in a scene together. That'd be nice.
lizardbeth: K-A Rapturelizardbeth_j on February 1st, 2007 05:09 am (UTC)
3. heh. DAD! "My son's such a screw up where your wife is concerned. But I'm kind of attached to him, so please don't kill him even though I know he's pissing you off."

cuz Dad and Sam have a whole lot to talk about that's way more important than Tigh. Hee, they'd probably start to talk about something important like Kara and then sidetracked into Pyramid talk.

"Don't worry, Admiral," Sam said, smile lazy. He raised his glass of ambrosia, "I play to win. And killing him isn't part of the game."

..... (fifty-second ficlet)

1. I think those looks are done for a while. That last one seemed to be Lee realizing he made the right choice by sticking with Dee and Kara made the right choice by sticking with Sam. Although I really want the scene where Kara tells Sam she's not leaving him. I want more explanation on that other than Lee telling her "no". At this point, I'll live in my own little world and just chalk it up to Sam being a part of Kara's "destiny".

3. I want to hear more about the 2 straws and the set of handcuffs.

1. God I hope so. And yeah, what happened to our Kara and Sam scene of reconciliation? *pout*

There is no story that can be bad if it involves handcuffs. Nope.
