notes on a saturday
I escaped the boring tedium of jury duty last week! \o/ (civic duty blahblah I know, but since I never get on a jury, it's just a big frakking waste of everybody's time.)

In more annoying news, Time-Warner and CBS are in a big dispute and I happen to be in a market where they're busy drawing lines in the sand, so all my CBS channels are blocked. Which I don't care about all THAT much, but JFC, it makes me hate them both. (yeah, all that concern about the cost of things, Time Warner? YEAH I SEE YOUR BILL STFU)

In more lolarious news, Misha Collins tweeted his actual phone number (or at least A phone number; I desperately hope he got a separate phone for this stunt). Pretty sure I stared at it for a while - it's a SoCal area code, so I knew that part of it was real, and I was all "he didn't just do that, did he?" But of course the answer to that question is always yes. Just when I think he loses his King of Fandom Trolls status he goes and does something like this. LOLOLOL

Good reception for Hail of Shadows so far. It's not setting the world on fire or anything, but I'm pleased. There's little better than a comment that makes you wanna SMIRK and say "OH YOU HAVE NO IDEA." lol

I'm amused that something I added at the last second gets the most notice. Apparently I know what makes something better, but it takes a while to kick in.

It's interesting to me that AO3 starts out gathering hits quickly (in Avengers fandom anyway which is big in both places), but by the third day ff.net climbs ahead in hit counts and never relinquishes its lead. It's probably only true in the gen I write (I'm sure slash is much bigger at AO3 since most of the M-rated stuff has moved to AO3), but still. And while I do occasionally get weird comments at ff.net, that's balanced by the people who are SO THRILLED to find someone who writes something readable. It's just so flattering. :D

For the first time I actually have more editing than finishing something on my fannish to-do list. And yes in the RL writing orig fic is on that list. I need to get my scattered notes (and brain) together. I might use this LJ for that. Because honestly it's not like there's a lot of folks at LJ anymore anyway, so I might as well use it for its original journal purpose, right?

And yup, use your journal for that. I've been posting drabbles, out bits, and also save locked drafts to come back to. I love seeing people use LJ this way.

yes, I have an original novel idea in the vague planning stages that I want to get focused, so it seems like more fun maybe to write it out and have y'all who are friendly to take a look and encourage me in my non-fannish thing.
