Fishtastrophe Part II
So all three of the new fish died, after all. We bought two new ones. Suspecting the water temp got too cold overnight, I bought a heater and did another partial water change (in case the previous tenants had left too much grossness), and plugged in the filter to let it all settle before putting the new fish in. And discovered it was probably not the temp (or not only the temp), because the filter isnt working properly. My choices being small fish in a small tank with a heater and a hiccupy filter mechanism or a big unheated tank with a six-inch goldfish, I opted for the small tank. Now, I cross my fingers and see how long they last.

Oh, and just to make matters worse, I managed to break the electrical outlet as well, and had to move the tank. *sigh* so much trouble for two teeny things.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Have you kept fish alive before?

I mean. I have done everything right with fish and they have never lived longer than 15 days. I'm just a fish killer, it's who I am, I've accepted it and moved on to a primarily sushi diet. I hope you can have fish! But I think that there may be some strange ~fish killing vibes~ that some people just have. Idk.

Best of luck!

lol. yes, we actually have a five-year-old goldfish and two others so we were trying to 'move up' to something a bit more challenging....

Yep. that was our mistake. *g*

Good luck! I had a Fishpocalypse in college...I had an aquatic frog and a small catfish that was the last survivor of a catfish school that had died off maybe six months before. And they were both fine, but one day I got it into my head that the catfish needed a school again, so I went to the store and bought three more catfish.

The next morning, all three new ones were inexplicably dead, and the frog had tried to eat the old-timer but it was too big, but because the catfish was spiny and the spines got caught in its throat, I couldn't pull it out, and they both died.

Nothing good comes of buying new fish! FISHPOCALYPSE. Don't upset the balance.

yeah it's that "DON"T THEY NEED FRIENDS???" that got us into trouble in the first place with the thought that our old goldfish needed companions. now that she has companions she soundly ignores them all, now that she's decided they're not food.

I bought a couple of snails for the big tank to eat algae. So far all they've been good for is fish soccer, since the fish nudge them often enough they do nothing but huddle in their shells in snailish terror. lol

I took home two fish from my Middle School home room and added another two, and they lasted until undergraduate college. Haven't had any more since, because they weren't really that interesting.

They were unique to look at, but looking at fish isn't that interesting after a while.
