Vampire Diaries soon!
My brain is somehow convinced that I need to make a Stefan vid to Foo Fighters "Rope". But since my brain is also convinced I need S.3, it conveniently puts off the making of said phantom vid. Yeah, I don't know.

Anyway it got me thinking about Stefan and S.3 And, like many of us, I'm of two minds:

First, I totally understand Paul Wesley's point that it's a hell of a lot more fun. Villains are fun. Letting loose is fun. Fake blood is probably less fun, but this is CW, I doubt we'll get True Blood levels of fake gore.

Also, it's not easy to be the anchor for more flamboyant characters who get all the notice (see also Orlando Bloom's Will Turner against Jack Sparrow, and Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne against the Joker). They have to show restraint, just like Stefan, while the outrageous characters get all the good lines and get to do whatever the hell they want. The anchor maybe gets to save the day and be the hero, but he also gets accused of being wooden or dull. So yeah, I get not wanting to be that guy, for awhile. And I'm excited to see it because I believe Paul can bring it, and it'll be fabulous fun.

(it's an interesting thought experiment to switch the actors and imagine Damon and Stefan the other way around - blood-crazed-Stefan isn't that different from S1 Damon and Boone from Lost not that different from Stefan; how much is just Damon and how much is Ian-as-Damon? We'll never know- but never underestimate the popularity of the scenery chewer no matter who's playing him)

Anyway -

On the other hand, I'm worried. I'm not worried they'll bring good!Stefan back and that Elena'll forgive him cuz that's what she does. Eventually. I'd even like them to slow down the plot so we can actually get some character development. So yeah, I prefer that they don't just forget whatever horrors he commits, because that's better storytelling; BUT as a Stefan fan it pisses me off that Stefan's going to have to earn his redemption, when Damon got his without apparently even trying. So storyteller-me is all "If Stefan sucks Jeremy dry (just an example!) and then is really really sorry, Elena should take a long long time for her to get over it". But the Stefan-fan side is like, "she gave Damon the cold shoulder for what, an episode, she shouldn't be upset with Stefan more than two eps." Because it's NOT FAIR! /stomps foot

I also hate that this plotline is almost certainly going to cause a "who's worse" competition which will just cause wank. It's ALL horrible behavior and in the real world every vampire should get staked. But Mystic Falls is in a universe where Bing is THE search engine of choice, so clearly it's not our world. Can we just leave it there? But now we will certainly get the Damon apologists being all righteous about how at least Damon never slaughtered a bus full of preschoolers or whatever. sigh.

However, the good part: I await the reveal of exactly why Klaus needs a spare conscienceless killer. Because, really, how hard can those be to find? The only thing I can think of goes back to those theories about how maybe Stefan is also part Lockwood, so the 'ripper'/addiction thing is actually some latent werewolf gene. Like maybe his real father was Lockwood, so he would've become a werewolf, except he died and became a vampire before he killed anyone to activate the werewolf curse... Or something lulzy like that.

(I've also always had a weird fanon that Stefan's blood issues stem for the fact that he had vervain in his system when he died/turned. That ought to do something, having a previously inert substance turn to poison inside your body during the physical transformation.)

In other tv news,

Instead of watching "Ringer" last night I watched the pilot of "Homeland", the upcoming Showtime series with Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, about a soldier who returns from 8 years as a prisoner in Iraq and the CIA analyst who believes that he was turned in captivity and may be part of a terrorist plot. It's something like "Sleeper Cell", for those who saw that, and anchored by the two leads, who are both awesome - (Morena Baccarin is also good as his wife). Spy shenanigans of the modern, real variety, not James Bond. Check it out streaming for free in various places before it starts on Showtime in October. Definitely made me want to see more!

DAMIAAAAAAAAAN! Quite possibly the only actor who's hotter with an American accent (and simmering rage) rather than his natural English accent.

I don't know WHY I find him so attractive when he's acting like he has buried rage, but I do.

OMG did you watch? It fits him so amazingly well.

and he was hot and yet increasingly ... disturbing. so awesome.

Ack, I hadn't paid close enough attention to realize it's already aired! (This is what happens 'cause I have no TV connection! No ads to tell me what's coming up!)

Okay, I'll need to track this down somehow for the sake of potentially angry American Damian.

no, it hasn't aired yet, but it's available aheming and on legit free streaming at HitFix.com (and possibly other places, but that's where I watched it)

Oh my, Showtime? How much am I gonna be grossed out? (I'm really, really squeamish. Really. Squeamish.)

the pilot blurs out the nudity (at least the streaming version did, I can't vouch for the DL versions since I don't know what they copied) and there's a bit of brief violence since Brody has flashbacks to his captivity.

'kay, just watched. I'm gonna have to wimp out. It wasn't the shown violence (although that was definitely a thing), but the extremes to which the premise is going to go is probably above my feel-bad TV appreciation level. I love feel-bad entertainment, but...
Frances: TVD - Stefan/Elena face nuzzlegoldy_dollar on September 15th, 2011 03:29 am (UTC)
I would not be surprised at all if Stefan did turn out to be part werewolf - though I would also not be surprised if it was something altogether. TVD wouldn't be TVD without its sudden plot twists.

ANYWAY I SHARE ALL YOUR CONCERNS. Maybe we should just never leave the bunker? WE NEED TO JUST POST ENDLESSLY CUTE S/E GIFS AT EACH OTHER. Also possibly bake some cookies.

I just hope it's not something as convoluted and lame as the damn moonstone.

SAD OTP IS SAD. or at least the Elena half is, Stefan is like GIMME TASTY BLOOD WHATEV
