BSG/DW ficlet: Encounter
Kara/Sam and Eleventh Doctor
Set in the middle of BSG Taking a Break and S.6 Doctor Who
Sam and Kara encounter the Doctor.
600 words
Written quickly for twelvecolonies promptathon.

(Um, so, my first DW fic? Hopefully it's not too awful)

Sam walked slowly toward the docking bay, resolutely not looking behind him to see if Kara was coming after him. He'd told her to go but he still held some hope that it would go his way for a change. Come on, Kara, remember, he urged her silently, but there was no sound of running feet to stop him.

Then she's made her choice and you move on, he told himself. Suck it up. You made your play, and you lost.

There was a strange sound coming from the cross-corridor - a sort of wheezing, as if the air units were overloaded. No one else appeared to be around, and so he put his bag over his shoulder and went to check it out.

Then, he stared. Right before his eyes, where it hadn't been before, a tall, blue box appeared.

He groped for a weapon, but of course, he wasn't wearing one. "What the frak is that?"

Not surprisingly it didn't talk and explain itself, but the front of it split and open up. A pale man wearing a pale shirt and a bow tie bounded out, glanced around, and his gaze alighted on Sam. "Anders! There you are. Where's Thrace? You're here, so she can't be far away."

Warily Sam backed up two steps, unable to take his eyes away. "You know my name. Who are you? What are you?"

The stranger paused and frowned at him, as if Sam was saying something inexplicable. "But I'm sure I timed it correctly.... but you don't know me. But you should know me; I know I'm after we met the first time. So why don't you remember me?" He approached Sam, looking curious and puzzled and eager, and though Sam was suspicious he didn't feel alarmed, though he thought maybe he should be since it wasn't every day that a strange blue box appeared out of nowhere and let out a stranger. Sam held still and let the stranger approach him. The stranger looked around, noting the ship's corridor, and nodded to himself. "Well, I suppose we should figure that out later." Despite his words he kept frowning at Sam as if he was a puzzle piece that didn't quite fit anywhere.

Deciding the stranger wasn't going to hurt him, Sam recovered the steps he'd taken and repeated, "Who are you, and what are you doing here?"

"I'm the Doctor," he said, as if that was enough. "And I'm looking for you, of course. Your lovely wife, too; since I'm afraid I've left my other companions in a bit of a jam and I could use your skills." He reconsidered and asked, "You are married, right? I didn't time it that badly?"

Sam blinked. "No, but we..." He was about to say he wasn't sure it was still true, when a familiar voice called, "Sam?"

He turned to see Kara rounding the corridor, and she called out, "What the frak do you think you're doing?"

"Leaving," he answered.

Her eyes were fixed on his and she looked a little hesitant, as she came nearer. "Don't."

He wanted to make it easier on her, but he'd been doing enough of that. He waited. "Don't what?"

"Don't go," she said, and held something in her hand out to him. "I-- "

She didn't get a chance to finish before the doctor interrupted, "Take it, Sam. You'll have it later, so you obviously take it now." Sam held out his hand and let Kara put her dog tag and its cord into his hand, folding his fingers around it so he could hold it. Her eyes stayed fixed on his, asking that he take it, and her hand stayed around his for what felt like an endless moment. The doctor clapped his hands together. "There, it's all settled, right? Now we can get on with the rescuing. Come on. We have to get to Earth."

Kara and Sam both stared at him. "Earth?" she repeated. "Wait, what the frak's going on? Who are you?"

"I'm the Doctor, this is the TARDIS, and we're going on an adventure to rescue some friends," he recited quickly, herding them along. Sam let himself get urged through the door of the TARDIS, wondering how the three of them were going to fit.

Except it turned out to be not a problem at all.

He looked around in wonder. It seemed golden and beautiful, airy, with machines and filled with light. There was a sound like breathing and he knew it was alive. It felt... welcoming, and he found himself smiling. "I've been here before," he said suddenly. He didn't know how or when, but knew it was true. "I can't remember being here, but I've been here before. Haven't I?"

The Doctor clapped him on the shoulder. "Indeed you have. Come along." Before he'd gotten up to the control area, the ... ship - Sam knew it was a ship somehow - began making noise, and he called over his shoulder. "The TARDIS has always liked you two. Come up here and tell her to go to Earth."

Sam exchanged stunned glances with Kara, and found her hand to squeeze, before they were both running to join the Doctor. "Earth?" Kara demanded breathlessly. "Really?"

Amused, the Doctor smiled at them fondly. "Let's go see your once and future home."

I AM FAST. And that's ok, for it made me giggle a lot and make this icon. ahem. I should maybe go to bed, though.

I did a little jig in my seat.

DW crosses over with all my favorite shows so easily. It's delightful.

Are you feeling well? 600 words? Not 6,000? ;)

I love it. :D

"I'm the Doctor, this is the TARDIS, and we're going on an adventure to rescue some friends," he recited quickly, herding them along.

I kept expecting "Come along, Thraces." :P

LOL it would've been 6000 but for that PESKY DEADLINE. I feel STIFLED.:P

I was so hoping the deadline was May 4 or 5 or something. I really wanted to write (or whatever) for more than just one of those prompts, but alas, time and D's family conspired against me.

And really need to find a good DW OT4 icon, an Amy/Rory icon, and a few good River/Doctor icons. And more River. There can never be enough River.
