Fic: Five Times Helo and Sharon Have Kissed
Rating: PG
Spoilers: through 2.20, and one small one from S.3 (in number 5)
"Five Things" prompt from sabaceanbabe. Thanks! Hope you like it!

Number Eight cringed when Helo fell, and debris rained down on him. What if he was hurt? What if he was dead? "Stop!" she commanded, and the centurion's weapon immediately pointed upward, as it paused. She ran across the shot-up restaurant to Helo and knelt to find his pulse. The beat of his heart felt strong under her fingertips. His skin was so warm. He felt alive.

He called her 'Sharon'. He didn't know that she wasn't the one he had known. He didn't understand that he was the ball in someone else's Pyramid game.

She traced his jaw and up his cheek, across his closed eyes. His lashes feathered against her fingertips and his breath came soft against her palm. So alive.

Mindful of the centurion behind her, she leaned over him and whispered, knowing he couldn't hear her, "I'm sorry, Helo."

She touched her lips to his, though she didn't quite know why. He wouldn' t know, so it wasn't as though it was part of the plan. But she had wanted to try it since the rain, when he had almost kissed her.

He didn't react, didn't move, and she was disappointed, even though this was not a good time for him to wake up.

She touched where she had kissed him, lightly, in the promise that she would see him again, and rose to her feet. Centurion at her heels, she left, breaking glass under her feet with each step.

He was trying. He knew she and the Chief were together. Frak, everyone knew that. He'd even covered for them a few times. But he couldn't stop thinking about touching her, and kissing her, and --

No. It was wrong. Desperation. Fear. Being the only people alive on the planet. That was all. She was hurt, and the last thing she needed or wanted was her ECO groping her.

But he was too tired to keep the words in. "... I would've given anything to be him..."

And suddenly he was. He had Sharon in his arms, and her lips against his. She was clumsy in her haste, and he felt her flinch a little, as if surprised, when his tongue touched her open lips. But then she was moaning into him, her hands under his shirt, and all he could think about was the miracle that she was here and, at least for this moment, she was his.

Kissing her should feel different now that he knew what she was, the vague thought flitted through his mind. She was a Cylon. But he wasn't kissing a machine. He was kissing a person. Sharon. His Sharon.

There was no hesitation in her, only relief as she held him tightly, running a hand up and down his back. "It wasn't supposed to be this way," she whispered, confessing. "It wasn't supposed to be real. But it is real, Helo. It is. You, me, and our baby. That's all that matters now."

He looked into her beautiful dark eyes, and the not-quite-human thoughts behind them. But that slightly alien glimmer reassured him, because now she wasn't pretending. She might not be telling him all the truth, but about this, he believed her. He wrapped his arms around her, and laid his cheek against the smoothness of her hair.

"We're going to make it, Sharon," he murmured, remembering when he'd said it before, so innocent of the real struggle ahead.

"Of course. We're a part of God's plan," she answered, with her odd, and yet somehow comforting simple faith in her Cylon God.

But he couldn't resist teasing her a little. "So say we all."

She looked right at the One when he appeared on the top of the hill, framed by the orange Caprican light. She wanted to speak, to warn the Humans, since they didn't seem to know he was a Cylon. Or did Anders and his friends know and they thought he was different, like her? But he wasn't, she knew that. She opened her mouth but nothing came out. She tried again, and her voice refused to work. Something was going to happen, and nothing she did was going to change it.

Instead she pulled Helo's down to her, her hands framing his face. She kissed him, tasting him for what might be the very last time. She couldn't protect him from what was coming. She couldn't even warn him.

Some of her desperation came through, and he frowned at her, worried. "Sharon?"

But the group came under fire, and they were running, with no time to speak, even if she could.

Adama gave the blessing, watching as the pair turned toward each other. They were both smiling, and there seemed to be tears in Sharon's eyes, as she reached for Agathon's hands. Adama found himself surprised by the joy in her face, even though he believed her emotions were real. That naked joy made him feel a little more confident of his decision. Keeping her locked in a box, away from Agathon, wasn't doing anything but proving the Cylons were right about humanity. But maybe -- just maybe -- if the Cylons could truly experience love and pain and grief... then they could feel compassion as well. But they had to experience it for themselves to learn what it was.

She went up on tiptoe and twined her arms around Agathon's neck, and they kissed.

Husband and wife. The Human and the Cylon. For a moment, he was disoriented, remembering Boomer in CIC, shooting him, and her corpse in the morgue. What he was seeing now didn't feel real, like it was a vision from the Gods, showing him how the war would end.

But this was true and real, and it had nothing to do with Gods or God, only two brave people who were determined to do this, in spite of everything.

They were still kissing, lost in it, and the way his hand was creeping down her hip was starting to edge into inappropriate. Adama cleared his throat. "Congratulations, to both of you." And Starbuck and Anders -- the only other witnesses -- took that as their cue to clap and whistle.

Sharon and Helo parted, but didn't let go of each other. Adama doubted that they ever would, not in any way that mattered.

This is so cool!

That was totally incredible, I loved every single word. Hooah! Thanks

you are most welcome! Glad you liked it. Hopefully you'll like your prompts as well -- they'll probably take a few days, though, so be patient! :)

Thanks again.

Awesome, baybeee! Just awesome. *twirls* I love them all.

Now, for some specifics:

I can't quite place the timing on One, although it's obvious enough that you've done them chronologically. I'm guessing it's post Water, since that's the one with that look in the rain and the almost kiss, just before the radio picks up some kind of signal (damn radio)...

Two is just... *guh* Yeah, I know it's kind of a novelization of what we saw on screen, but still lovely. I'm a big fan of novelizing things, giving them more life and depth than what that little flat screen can bestow, and you've done that here. Brava!

I like Four and Sharon's confusion and reluctance to speak. It feels real and all the more poignant for that.

Five is fun, with them getting lost in their kiss and Adama kinda scurrying to stop that inappropriate hand. *snerk* And the last paragraph is perfect.

But Three is my favorite. Helo accepting her for who and what she truly is and that little bit of teasing at the end. That's what these two are all about.

Thank you so much. *hug*

How are you ?
lizardbeth: Sharonlizardbeth_j on September 9th, 2006 05:26 pm (UTC)
yay, I feel all dizzy! thank you.

I can't quite place the timing on One
oops. It's supposed to be a 'missing scene' from "You can't go home again", when the Centurions come in when Helo makes toast, and the Cylons "kidnap" Sharon. We never see what she does after he goes down. I put in a bit about the rstaurant this morning to hopefully clarify.

Five threatened to get away from me (it kept wanting to turn into the whole wedding), so I'm glad I ended it in a good place. And three was fun, because we know he must have had a moment like that, when he internalizes that she's different and he accepts it. I'm not sure, myself, when that is, so that's why I didn't try to tie it to a specific canon event.

So anyway, you are very welcome! It was a great, clear, inspiring prompt (as you can tell, since I put it out the door first). :D

Ah... Now I understand it perfectly. Hee. At first, I thought the breaking glass was a metaphor for her being careful not to disturb him as she walked away. *headdesk*

I really adore this, Lizardbeth. Thank you so much.

Ooh, I *liked* this. I think 2 was my favourite, because of the way you used Helo's thoughts. That bit with him telling himself she didn't need her ECO groping her was just beautifully phrased. But they were all good.

thank you muchly! Two was their first kiss, so of course I had to do that moment. Glad you liked them!

So good. I'm starting to mellow towards these two with writing like this. Helo is just.. words can't describe it but I was having trouble with Sharon especially with her family? These snippets are starting to mellow me to them. The writing is very good. I hope the series shows no.5 it would be cool.
lizardbeth: Sharonlizardbeth_j on September 9th, 2006 07:45 pm (UTC)
oh yay, another convert! :)

thank you very much. And yes,Helo is really quite indescribable. :) (I use *thud* a lot, myself, but maybe that's just me) I would also love a wedding snippet in the show.

Sharon is a little tough to 'get', for everyone (though 'round here, we cut her a lot more slack than other people). My take is that she's conflicted between her love and loyalty to Helo, and her lingering (possibly programmed) loyalty to the Cylons. The Humans have certainly not made it easy for her to transfer her loyalties either (/understatement). But I suspect she'll have figured things out a little more next season.

anyway, thanks again for commenting!

It works if you make yourself 'sharon' lol. especially with the sexing and stuff. With Helo Oh yes!

I think you are totally right, given the current spoilers.

Sharon is a little tough to 'get', for everyone (though 'round here, we cut her a lot more slack than other people).

This is very true, its only recently do you see people treating her (writing her) like the hero she is, plus being the home of Sharon and Helo fans we will always cut Sharon more "Slack"

I just love this. The progression is beautiful.

The fifth kiss has to be my favorite. The last line just makes me really happy. :D

oh, thank you! This was my first try at one of these 'five things' meme answers so I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

The Fifth one was so much fun to write! Adama and Kara and Anders kinda butted their way in there, and it was hard to make them all behave! :)

Found my way here via Jeff's recommendation over at Kindreds. I love this! I just can't choose which I like best: two or five.

Personally I am very attached to five. THAT is how they got married in my fanon universe, and since we got no canon to contradict it, it lives on. *g*
