BSG: "Maelstrom"
ARRRGH! My sucky ass cable company could NOT get a decent feed. This whole episode was chopped up and pixelated and just GRRRRR. The whole sitting-under-Viper convo? I heard maybe every other word.

SO AGGRAVATED by that.

Needless to say I need to find a copy that isn't totally frakked up.

Otherwise.

um.

y'know, I was doing okay until the final scene. Being spoiled does occasionally have advantages, so that I was more prepared. But that ending bit with Adama and the ship? Killed me. Well, no, actually, the part where Socrata says that she kept all of Kara's childhood things and that she was looking at them on her deathbed? OMG. Dead. Because that gets me in the mommy place. (I have also been known to cry at diaper commercials, though, so I'm pretty easy if it touches that part, I have to admit)

Overall the Kara and her mother's abuse thing was not played quite as I expected, and I'm glad of that. But yes, I'll have to go with the Cylon here, that Socrata had the message ('you are special') and then chose a really crappy, stupid way to "prepare" Kara for it.

And cigarettes are OF THE DEVIL, yo. Sorry, just had to throw that in.

That paint scene? er, makes me want to try it, except the smell in real life nauseates me, so it probably wouldn't work. But hot... yes.

I quite liked the Kara and Lee interaction in this one, particularly the Hall of the Dead scene. (oh, Duck! I'm glad you're not forgotten) But I'm very fond of the image of Duck and Nora and Lee all playing cards in the afterlife. With Kat.

And Helo was doing his Kara Buddy thing. excellent.

Sam... oh yes, y'all knew I'd get to Sam, right? Well, besides the obvious point that there was not enough of him. Was he wearing her tag? Or was it something else? (again, bad picture - I could tell he was wearing some sort of pendant, when he was buttoning his shirt but not what it was). I'm pretty sure it's the same THING he's wearing in the promo pic for "TSAR", whatever IT is.

And awww. he wanted Kara to go away with him for awhile. And she didn't. poor Sammy.

In retrospect, thinking a bit more, interesting that he seems to believe in Kara's destiny too. Whether or not he ends up a Cylon, I can see how that belief is going to make him not accept that she's gone. Just like we the audience can't believe it, because we know the external markers of her importance as a character and her simply dying is not in the cards, because it would be a cheat on everything we've been told about her destiny. (not to mention things like this is the fourth episode from the end of the season and it's unreasonable in TV-Land to kill one of your leads in a non-sweeps, non finale episode) So Sam, if he really does believe that she has some destiny, isn't going to believe she's dead, either, no matter how many times Lee tells him she's gone.

So, anyway, me and Sam will be over here, clinging to our denial. yes.

I should however thank the gods that my migraine passed in time for me to watch it at all, so maybe I shouldn't bitch about the terrible picture quality. eep.

y'know, I'm so confident today her "death" hardly bothers me at all. I was pretty confident before I saw it, but after getting over the second-hand grief that Adama inflicted on me? I have no doubt she's coming back. Like I said to SB below, I don't even think we (the audience) are meant to believe she's Dead dead (although the RTF is). Ron and Co could have made it a lot more definitive (the ejection seat, the Raider, Lee's refusal of an S&R team...) if they'd wanted to. But they left the door open. Hell, John and Aeryn came back from being gravel -- this is a piece of cake in comparison. So... to me it's just a question of HOW she comes back, not if.

Pretty much the only thing that will change my mind is to learn that Katee's on another show when S.4 begins shooting. At which point I will be very pissed, because that IS cheating. But I don't believe that'll happen. Remember, Kara is Ron's Mary Sue -- we've reached the point in the story where the Sue falls into a tragic coma and everyone mourns her. I will not be entirely surprised if Kara comes back with amnesia...

Oh, I'm kinda completely in denial about things.

But. We really need to get some god-damned Starbuck love goin'. There's TWO communities, and no one ever talks on them.

I honestly don't think we're in denial. Not this time. (Of course, that could just be a symptom of denial. :P)

If Kara has a destiny, as has been hammered on time and again, then simply dying like that is not a destiny. On the other hand, the Leoben-who-was-not-Leoben told her that it was time to see what lies between life and death. So Kara may not be alive right now, but neither is she dead.

And pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease don't wrap up this storyline in a neat little package in the first ep or two of s4. Give it time! Let it play out for a while!

Oh! One more thing. Leoben and Kara and paint? OMGHOT! *dies*

exactly (er, about the destiny). I mean, every single previously mentioned it, and it doesn't make sense that it's simply to go off and get killed and not come back. As you say, that's not a destiny. It's a step toward that destiny, whatever it is.

Whether she got rescued by the Raider or she downloaded in some fashion, I'm extremely confident that she'll be back. (I mean, come on, they showed her touching the seat ejection lever -- I really don't think we're meant to believe she's Dead dead. Although the other characters are.) So to me, it's a cliffhanger, or a mystery, but I'm not upset about it.

Can't add much more to what you or SB have said, so I'll just ask, are you writing the fic where Sam finds out that Kara has taken the next step toward fulfilling her destiny?

Oh. And I will never be able to paint a room again without thinking of that scene! Far better than the silly paint fight scene from Facts of Life that used to stick in my head (yikes! I just so dated myself!). LOL.

I will if Son also Rises doesn't give us anything. But I have a phobia about writing anything that might get jossed in a week. *g*

And yeah, that paint scene was quite... something. My husband and I redid our living room paint last summer and we totally missed out on the erotic potential!

Ahh. Makes total sense. Don't you have any other rooms to repaint?
lizardbeth: Kara-Anders - staylizardbeth_j on March 5th, 2007 08:29 pm (UTC)
lol!

"Hon, don't you think we need to repaint the bedroom?"

"It looks fine."

"No, no,we really, really need to repaint the bedroom. RIGHT. NOW."

*lightbulb* "oooooh! Right. Purple's nice. And then we can paint it back to beige next week...."

Sorry to intrude like this I just wanted to comment to say that Sam was definitely wearing a pendant, it looked like Kara's dogtag =) ... I actully missed it so thanks for highlighting it.
lizardbethlizardbeth_j on March 5th, 2007 09:59 pm (UTC)
no problem! I hope it is her tag. (I spend quite a bit of time staring at his chest, so I notice these things...)
