2014 Fic Year in Review
First, the two fics I wrote for gift exchanges this year can be revealed!

1. For Yuletide!
Discontent
The Lego Movie (with a bit of The Hobbit)
Benny the 80s Spaceman.
- The spaceship is always out of reach.

2. For Mischief and Mistletoe!
The Littlest Star
MCU/Thor, Sif/Loki, Canon Divergence AU
- One night on Vanaheim has consequences to Sif and to... everything.

List of all other 2014 fic below:

THOR/MCU FICS

First, the series/connected universes:
    The Ice Demon Series (gen)
  1. The Snow Queen and the Ice Demon. In self-exile on Midgard, Loki discovers he has a daughter, Elsa of Arendelle. (crossover with Frozen).

  2. The Ice Demon and the Snow Princess. Loki gets some news on Asgard about Elsa and a new addition to his family tree.

  3. The Ice Demon and the Hydra. More than a hundred years later, Loki wants to keep his promise to Elsa to protect Arendelle, but against Schmidt and Hydra, he needs the help of Captain America and the Howling Commandos. (gen, minor Steve/Peggy).

    The Winter Garden
  1. A Crocus in the Snow -- sequel to A Seed in Barren Lands. Loki/Sif. In the wake of the revelation in the first story, Loki and Sif go on a quest to stop Malekith, while Frigga, Odin, and Thor try to deal with the truth

    What Grows Beneath the Nettle
  1. What Grows Beneath the Nettle - Bonus. Very imaginatively titled addition to last year's Mischief and Mistletoe fic. Loki/Sif.

Music is Magic - Modern AU, Loki/Sif, Sif's a lawyer, Loki's a musician, and they make it work.
  1. Kick off the Moss - Loki is grumpy because his songwriting is going poorly; Sif knows what to do. (hint, it involves walking by the river and sex.)

  2. Suddenly I see - very early prequel, when they're teens and not together.

    Understanding the Storm (gen)
  1. Although I didn't actually finish the next main story, i did write a few things for the Tales of the Storm which is where I stash ficlets in this 'vers

Other, separate stories:
- Unintended Consequences Loki/Sif. The hair incident.
- The Wrong Door Loki/Sif. Modern AU.
- Outrageous (gen) Loki and Thor, and the horse. You know. (humor)

Captain America/MCU
1. The First Spring
AU to Winter Soldier. Bucky gets himself out of there and goes to find "him".

2. The kind of guy you save
Sam-centric, mild Bucky/Steve. Sam is gonna help Steve find Bucky, even though he knows it's dangerous.

3. The Ice Demon and the Hydra
Canon Divergent AU</i>. Loki reluctantly joins Captain America and the Howling Commandos to take down Schmidt and Hydra.

Other Fandoms
Eagle in the Dove-Cote
Coriolanus, Caius Martias/Tullus Alfidius

The She-Wolf of Rome
Virgilia-centric, ref Virgilia/Caius Martius

Broken Pack
Person of Interest
Wee Bear-POV ficlet

Total number of completed stories: 18

Total word count: 176500 (seems a little high, even with the obvious overlaps with 2013 removed, but according to AO3 that's the tally)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? probably fewer stories, but they were longer in words. I think not being in a Landcomm or other short fic encouraging thing like bsg-kink made me trend long. I wrote very few short things.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? I guess I might have predicted Coriolanus except I'm not sure I knew Hiddleston was going to be in it or that I would actually be able to see it. I certainly would never predicted I'd write a story about Virgilia though.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? The Snow Queen and the Ice Demon probably. It was just a great coincidence that Frozen happened along at the right time and fit so perfectly with something I had already sketched out as backstory. Being able to use the lessons that Anna and Elsa learned and them in turn being able to use them to help Loki, plus the strengthened family theme, just added so much.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I wrote a little fic from Bear the Dog's POV - I learned (1) it wasn't that easy, and (2) I'm not going to do it again.

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year? I keep bitching about losing my mojo for original fic, and yet you can clearly tell that I totally have stories that have fuck-all to do with their actual canon (see also the "music is magic" series, which barely needs any serial numbers filed off).

My best story of this year: The kind of guy you save probably? It's really one of the few self-contained stories I wrote, and I think fits canon well, and it's Sam Wilson dealing with Steve and Bucky in their fucked-up-ness with grace and humor. Plus, cupcakes.

My most popular story: either "A Crocus in the Snow" or "The Snow Queen and the Ice Demon" depending on whether 'popular' is measured in kudos or hit counts.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: "Ice Demon and the Hydra" - isn't finished yet, and it's not like it's un-appreciated, but apparently First Avenger/Howling Commandos fans and Loki fans and gen fans don't overlap very much... pity. I think it's great fun.

Most fun story to write: "Outrageous" is totally a one-joke fic, but it's fucking hilarious. Also "Discontent", my Lego Movie story was So Much Fun - Lego movie, Benny, Vitruvius, The Hobbit! heee

Most Sexy Story: "Eagle in the Dove-Cote". It's basically only sex. And hate. But mostly sex.

Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: ha, well, after you do the Loki/Laufey non-con story, let's be honest, there's nothing else that's wrong anymore. So I have to be super-tame this year and say 'Crocus in the Snow' because wow is Tyr a terrible person.

Hardest story to write: "A Crocus in the Snow" because abuse is just generally hard to write, and dealing with all that as honestly as I could, plus all the things I know about but never actually made it into the story was pretty emotional.

Most disappointing: "Unintended Consequences". I don't even know why, it's just disappointing to me.

Easiest story to write: "The kind of guy you save" was really fun, I found Sam's voice I think pretty well, and it just all came together.

Biggest surprise: Honestly that people liked "the Wrong Door" as much as they did. For a kind of random AU meet-cute that doesn't even go anywhere, it's been surprisingly popular (so yes, I have more planned, because that sort of encouragement needs rewarding)

Writing Goals of 2015:
- Finish "Comes the Hurricane". Which was on last year's goal. but I really do have to finish it. It's SO CLOSE.

- write something that's not fanfic. I need to shake off these cobwebs and just fucking DO it.
