Writing:
I sat on this just so I could get to the round number. Comes the Hurricane has now ridiculously passed 50K words. It's not done, or even super close, but at least the skeleton is now there. But after all this work and words (especially when this one is longer than Poison Rain, and together are going to be over 100K), I start to wonder if there's a way to file off the serial numbers, you know? Obviously the superhero part would have to be clipped or undergo some radical changes, but the Multiple Kingdoms Having a Big Frakking War part seems do-able (though, lol, without more detail it just looks like I'm ripping off GoT instead...)

oh, and can I talk about the unexpected subplot of unexpected awesome: Old People Romance. I AM FULL OF FEELS FOR A COUPLE MARRIED APPROXIMATELY TWO THOUSAND YEARS. Like, the thousand year cold war between them that they never even talked about, is thawing and they're getting kind of adorable. which I did not expect. (Odin. Adorable. Not a word I would associate with him, generally.)

Having seen a bit of "Legends of the Fall" again recently, it would make a good THOR AU since it's about the same issues of jealousy and favoritism and guys who look like Brad Pitt who get all the girls even when they're reckless gits. And hey, Anthony Hopkins as the family patriarch who fucks it all up, nope, that doesn't fit AT ALL...

TV:
I watched the first two three eps of The Vikings, which looks promising as a replacement for Spartacus in my slot for Quasi Historical Dramas of Kickass Fighters and the Badass Women Who Love Them. (though omg I wanted so badly to reach into my screen; STOP BURNING LINDISFARNE H8U). And Defiance starts Monday, which I think we all need to start a prayer circle for it, because yo, there is so much anticipation, I'm a bit scared people will be disappointed or recoil from the hype. Even if it's decent. The first 15 min were interesting, at least.

CLAAAARA. I quite enjoyed getting to know CLara a bit better and getting out to alien places again, that was quite fun. and the little nods to past continuity like referencing Susan (I figure some of this is because of the anniversary coming up - they seem a bit more willing to go to the nostalgia well). I think this one is more of a show where the ideas are pretty good, and I'm not sure I want to examine the actual details too closely. And jfc that thing in the box section went on and on and on...

I'm sure I had deeper thoughts earlier, but *waves hands inarticulately* yeah. This is why I should do posts closer in time when I see it. And earlier in the day maybe...

I just need to jump in here and say that if you want help or someone to rant at or bounce ideas off of re: filing off serial numbers for Comes the Hurricane et al, I will be MORE THAN GLEEFULLY HAPPY to be that person. You know how I feel about this series. I mean...

It was really only today I was all - THIS HAS FUCK ALL TO DO WITH THE ACTUAL CANON. I kinda knew that before, but now that I'm in the war part (not to mention now that Loki is a functioning member of his family) it seems pretty disconnected. But I have no idea how to fully disconnect them - not that I've thought about it too much at this point.

But I also feel I owe the people who've read Poison Rain some kind of follow up. Maybe not the full thing, since it's quite plotty, but something, y'know? So there's that too.

So I have no idea what to do with all this, if anything!I' I'd ask what you think, but you'd probably have to read what I have so far to know if it really can be successfully decoupled from Marvel (given I'd have to dump a lot of Understanding the Storm/Poison Rain, since they deal with the aftermath of Avengers), and I don't know if you want to read the incomplete version before I make you read a fuller draft for beta purposes later... So I'm willing to send it, although I know you also have a bunch of other stuff going on, so I can just continue on as well. Plenty more to write, either way.

Eh, send it on over, whatever you've got. I can't work on my original stuff much while I'm at work, but I can read other people's stuff and give my Thoughts. :D

You've got a wonderful handle on all these characters, and the directions you've taken the characters in are different enough from the films (and archetypal enough in general) where you wouldn't have to change much of them. The trick is going to be pairing away the central conflict from the copyrighted action surrounding it, so I might be able to offer some help with that.
