Actor Meme
Comment and I will give you ten actors and ten actresses. Then post in your Livejournal with your favorite films of theirs.

I restricted myself to feature films, which turned out to be kind of hard with some of them, who do mostly t.v., but that's what makes it fun, right?

By the way, for me, "favorite" is not the same at all as "the best". I use the criteria of: "Do I own it? Do I touch on its fandom in some way? Do I stop to watch it when I'm flipping channels? Or does the thought of watching it again fill me with dread?"

karate0kat gave me:

THE GIRLS

1. Elizabeth Mitchell - Frequency
(kind of a small scifi thriller, but well done, and everyone acts the hell out of it)

2. Mary McDonnell - Sneakers
(I remember it being funnier than Dances With Wolves, though I might find the latter much funnier these days. Can't say any of her films are particular favorites though)

3. Natalie Portman - Leon, the Professional
(But! She's going to be in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. That has high potential to become my new favorite!)

4. Gabrielle Anwar - The Three Musketeers ('93)
(She hasn't done a lot of features, and none I've seen recently, but I do remember this one being cracky)

5. Maggie Smith - A Room With a View
(OMG, no contest. This is one of my most favorite movies EVER.)

6. Keira Knightley - Pirates
(Honorable mention to Bend it Like Beckham, but being in the PotC fandom has to count for something!)

7. Julia Stiles - Bourne Identity
(Though her part is much bigger in later films and they add Pam, I object to how Marie was murdered (which is bad enough, but it ESPECIALLY pisses me off because Marie lives and continues to be awesome in the books, though Marie was always more awesome in the books. One of the things that I don't like about the movies is how they changed Marie. And that? Has nothing to do with Julia Stiles) ANYWAY. I still think it's a good film, and thankfully broke the stranglehold wirework had on action films after The Matrix. Though, otoh, for movies I associate more with Julia - 10 Things I Hate About You is my fave. I'm looking forward to her on Dexter)

8. Claudia Black - Pitch Black
(Does she HAVE any other features? But Pitch Black is a great little horrror/scifi flick)

9. Rosario Dawson - Death Proof
(Part of the Grindhouse "double feature". Four girls menaced by Kurt Russell's psycho, and just like The Bride, nobody fucks with a Tarantino sexy lady and lives to tell about it. Made epically awesome by Zoe Bell being her own awesome self)

10. Zoe Saldana - Star Trek
(I already mentioned Pirates...)

THE BOYS

1. Christian Bale - Batman Begins
(My crush is deep and wide, so it's kind of hard to choose. I mean, Reign of Fire is ridiculous, but I love it, too. And The Prestige is awesomesauce. Honorable mention for his younger days: Henry V)

2. Johnny Depp - Ed Wood
(I actually don't care for later Burton films all that much, but Ed Wood is brilliant and tragic. And I already mentioned Pirates)

3. Heath Ledger - Dark Knight
(Honorable mention: 10 Things..)

4. Michael Trucco - Next
(love him dearly, but I will never watch any of his few features again, now that I've clipped out his scenes, because OMG SO BAD. Next is ... watchable. Knight Club has the redeeming feature of the boykissing scene, though)

5. Matthew Fox - Vantage Point
(Kind of a mediocre film, but at least it wasn't awful like Speed Racer)

6. Chris Pine - Star Trek
(I know, I already mentioned it, but I haven't seen Princess Diaries 2. Somehow I don't think I'd like it more... )

7. Jensen Ackles - Ten Inch Hero
(This or My Bloody Valentine, um, yeah)

8. Ewan McGregor - Revenge of the Sith
(Do you have any idea how long I waited to see that EPIC BATTLE OVER LAVA? I believe it was mentioned in the novelization of SW:ANH, which I read when I was seven. And that's A LONG TIME, yo. Honorable mention must go to Emma - I always forget he's in it but I love that version, such a great cast and great score)

9. Sam Worthington - Avatar
(it's closer than you might think between this and Salvation since I'm one of the four people who actually LIKE T:S (see Boy #1 *g*), but there's no question Avatar is more visually stunning and imaginative. But... I own the other one.)

10. Brendan Fraser - The Mummy
(Honorable mention to Gods and Monsters, which isn't a "fun" movie at all, so not really a favorite exactly, but in terms of his serious work, is the one I like the most)

Wanna play? :)

Oh God, the Three Musketeers! You know, I think Kiefer's Athos kind of reminds me of Jack Bauer, but played opposite Oliver Platt and Charlie Sheen he's less douchey and more funny. And OMG Charlie Sheen before he was a raging douche! Or at least before I knew enough about him to always see him as a raging douche. But the long hair and beard makes it so I can almost pretend it's not him.

I may have seen that movie way too many times as a child.

Also, I was surprised at how much I didn't hate T:S. I expected to, since I loathe 3 (you don't fucking kill Sarah Fucking Connor off screen, you idiots), but it was pretty good. Moon Bloodgood is so pretty [/shallow].
lizardbeth: Connor and Katelizardbeth_j on June 7th, 2010 05:11 pm (UTC)
The thing I remember the most from Three Musketeers is the costumes. And, strangely, Oliver Platt. I haven't seen it in forever.

yeah, I don't think T:S is a great work of art or anything, but I don't get all the hate for it. Blair is a great addition to the canon.

What I remember most is this whole exchange:

Athos: Only a fool would try and arrest us twice in one day.
Jussac: You're under arrest.
Aramis, Porthos: A fool.
Jussac: Are you coming peacefully or do you intend to resist?
Porthos: Oh don't be so stupid, of course we intend to resist! Just give us a moment, all right?
[to his comrades]
Porthos: Five of them, three of us. Hardly seems fair.
Aramis: Maybe we should give them a chance to surrender.
D'Artagnan: Excuse me, but there's four of us.
Athos: It's not your fight. You're not a Musketeer.
D'Artagnan: I may not wear the tunic, but I believe I have the heart of a Musketeer.
Porthos: Warrior!
Aramis: Poet!
Athos: You got a name, boy?
D'Artagnan: D'Artagnan.
Athos: Athos, Porthos, Aramis.
Porthos: Pleased to meet you again.
Aramis: Pleasure.
Porthos: Everyone acquainted?
[the four whirl around and unsheathe their swords]
Porthos: NOW, we are prepared to resist you!

LOL!

Yes, that rings some bells.

The thing I remember most, as always, is the double dose of Paul McGann (as Jussac and the red-headed fop =D). Ok. And the silly sword fights.

Yet another person on my flist who makes the distinction between 'favorite' and 'best'. Thank you for that :)

Reign of Fire!!! I LOVE that crack-fest of a film!

lizardbeth: C Balelizardbeth_j on June 7th, 2010 05:28 pm (UTC)
Sometimes the two are the same thing, but yeah, generally films I love and want to rewatch aren't the best. Like If I had Liam Neeson, there is not a doubt in my mind that Schindler's List is the best movie he's been in, but I can barely manage to get through it because it's so hard to watch. So I feel like I can't really call it a favorite, not when I will happily sit there and watch Batman Begins for the whatevereth time.

Reign of Fire -- WHAT IS NOT TO LOVE?
M: Spock/Uhuramfirefly10 on June 7th, 2010 09:27 pm (UTC)
Exactly :)

A lot of the truly great movies are really hard to watch. I'd put The Hurt Locker on that list, as well. Gorgeous film but not something I really want to watch over and over again. Unlike, say, Star Trek...which I'll watch a million times but isn't about to win any Oscars :D

I know! Christian + Gerard + DRAGONS = WIN!

IMDB here I come!!!

Seriously I'll have to look up who some of these people are...and have to look at what movies others are in because I can only think of like the bad Colin Ferrell movies. :)
lizardbethlizardbeth_j on June 8th, 2010 01:26 am (UTC)
bad movies and hardly any movies are what makes it more fun, though! :)
