joy of home ownership, part three million
Facts about my new washer/dryer:

- they use less water and energy. which is good, of course, and why we bought them. (and also the others were old and gross)

- however, they have a CRAAAAAZY amount of options. This thing washes clothes, not flies jet fighters, but you wouldn't know it from the front panels.

- switching from top loading to front loading has also exposed that the floor is not as solid as it probably should be. So, if in a year's time, I write about the wash machine falling through my floor, you'll know it started here!

- I'm also crazy in love with the SONG IT PLAYS to tell you everything's done. It's so happy and bouncy! hee

oh, that would be so fun! I can imagine.

This is a little tune, not a full song, really, but it's so cheerful!

no annoying buzz! It's cool! I might get sick of the tune after awhile, but for now it's cute.

Ooo what kind of washer and dryer did you get?

Yes, I am that nerdy... but I'm looking for a new washer and dryer (my current one is old and cheap and left behind by the previous owners of my place apparently for good reason... it takes 2 hours to dry one load of delicates. It's insane and wasteful and ruining my clothes.) so I'd love to know what you picked out and if you like it!

We got LG front-loading ones. We got a really fabulous deal at a memorial day sale! So far I like it -- we made sure to get the one with the allergen cycle since Kidlet has bad allergies to dust mites, so that was important to us. I'm still getting used to the dryer, since it seems to need a bit higher temperature in our humidity to get things to really dry, but it's almost infinitely adjustable.

Does it come with it's very own Sam to play repairman?

LOL

Y'know, if they'd had that option I would totally have paid the extra. (hubby, not so much *g*)

Yeah, but did you and your husband sit down in front of it the first time you ran it to watch your clothes get clean? Hmm? :P

My littlest sits on the washer and watched the clothes spin. She loves it. :)

My requirement for a washer was that I wanted the biggest top loader available (the front loaders hurt my back as I'm tall enough to have to hunch over to use it).

My front loader has this seriously concave window (I think they all do?) that one of my cats likes to sit in sometimes. Weird cat.

It has a FABULOUS high-def picture! And Surround Sound!

I KNOW! And when that sub-woofer kicks in, it's like you're really there!

Aww! I'm completely charmed by the idea of my washing machine singing to me, nevermind how annoyed I am when the ice cream truck plays "Deep in the Heart of Texas" for the hundredth time. Different repetitions, I 'supose. :)

Damn, I really want snazzy new fighter jet appliances that I can't have now. ;)

It's very cool to have a washer that goes Mach 2! :D

Psst. Love mine; Kenmore model made by Maytag. Have had it since May 2005. I have occasionally been known to use the handwash, heavy duty, or whitest white selections (all one button push), but mainly I use the normal cycle, switch it to cold or hot from time to time, and wash it.

Professional advice: pay the extra money and get the stuff Tide makes to keep out mildew and smells. You use it once a month. This isn't by any means a universal problem, but we do hear it from time to time in our satisfaction surveys. (Not nearly as much as people complaining about CFLs though :D)
lizardbeth: Anders- Helolizardbeth_j on June 6th, 2010 11:17 pm (UTC)
oh yes, I can already tell mildew could be a problem. The fold of the rubber seal stays damp unless I wipe it out. This one comes with a tub wash cycle and you can just put a little bleach in it. But I'll check out the other stuff as well.

heh, I haven't lost any CFLs for a little while! Though I admit I laugh whenever I see them claim they have ten year warranties...
