Previously on...
If you feel like you could use a refresher on the first story, before you read At the Labyrinth Gates , I present --

.... For one moment, when Sam was on the championship team for Virgon, that niggling restlessness fell silent. ...

.... The instant he saw one of the Centurions, it was as if a switch flipped in his brain and he knew. He was a Cylon....

.... He took the small bottle out of his duffle and held it in his hand. But the desire - the need - for them wasn't there anymore, overcome by what he knew, the anger, and the battle for survival. He tipped the bottle over and watched the small white hexagonal pills tumble into the toilet....

.... Leoben's eyes were shining and he seemed to believe every word. "The first time I saw you I read your pattern to the end, and I knew you would eclipse everyone else on this world." ... There were five he didn't know. That was what Sam was. ....

.... Kara wasn't one of them. He knew that before he touched her -- he knew it looking into her bright eyes when they were holding guns on each other. When he was with her, all the questions and fear inside him went away. She was so enthusiastic, so physical, so unlike anyone he'd ever known, he couldn't get enough....

.... As his hand closed around Kara's dog tag, he wondered at this moment - Cylons helping him even though they thought he was human. "Thank you," he said. Then he licked his lips and offered, "I don't want this. I don't want to kill Cylons. I wish there was another way."
The Six smiled and his heart caught at how beautiful she was. "We need a new way to live in God's love. Our people need someone to show them the way. Someone like two heroes of the Cylon." ....

.... Kara was coming. Sam spoke to his team, mouth giving shape to something unexpected. "Look, I just know, okay? We're about to leave this rock. I don't know why I know this, or why it just hit me, but it did." He stalked away, rubbing at his face and raking his hands through his hair, trying to scrub it out of his head. But the feeling remained, some new awareness pushing up through his body....

.... An awful, sickening feeling tightened up in his gut and clutched cold hands around his heart again. He slid away from Kara and stood up, looking away as if he could peer through all the bulkheads to where the ballot counting was going on. "No. Not Baltar. Not settlement. Not New Caprica. I know if people settle this mud ball, it's going to go terribly wrong. We need to find Earth. Earth is where we need to go, not this hole." ....

.... "Then I think you should learn to fly." Kara grinned. "You wanna be my wingman, Sammy?"....

.... he grabbed chamalla between his fingers and put it on his tongue. His sight went black then filled with images of things that he had never seen before: Earth. A battle in space. Dying Cylons. A pit full of human bodies. A vast and ancient temple...

....Kara snickered. "You seem to need rescuing a lot."
"Someday I'll save you again," he promised....

.... "Sam! Oh Gods, you idiot, what did you do?" Kara knelt on the cold tile of the floor of the head and shook Sam's shoulder. He was out cold, though, and only let out a grunt heavy with alcohol fumes in response. He was curled up not far from the toilet, as if he'd come in here to throw up and then passed out. She'd heard him try to persuade Tyrol to stay on the ship, but Chief returned something sharp about how his mother had only two correct prophecies her entire life as an oracle and walked away. Sam had seemed to shrug it off, but then he'd disappeared from the farewell party. When she'd returned to their quarters after the Raptor had left and found two empty bottles and no Sam, she'd realized how badly he'd taken Tyrol's dismissal of Sam's vision of his future...

.... She shook off her moment of horror. "Galactica, Starbuck. We have multiple Cylon contacts...."

.... Sam said to her, "This isn't the end, Kara." A new warning light appeared on his Viper's instrument panel - an engine core temperature spike. He was wrong - this was an end. The other engines were about to explode. "Oh, frak me. Punching!"....

.... When he opened his eyes, a Raider was there, right in front of him. ... He folded to let his legs take most of the impact, and hit to one side of the front intake, below the sensor slit. "Oh frak!"....

.... The Cylons all seemed stunned by his voluntary disarmament, watching the gun come to rest not far from a Centurion's foot. Then their eyes swung back to him, confusion and a little wonder creeping in to their faces. "Something doesn't want me dead," Sam explained. "And I'm not here to hurt anyone. This is where I'm supposed to be."

And now you can go read At the Labyrinth Gates .

And yes, I did follow the grand tradition of BSG "previously on" segments for my own amusement. :)

Certain internet elves can be blamed for encouraging me to do this for real.

...some of the sections were not in the actual story, were they? Cool, we get deleted scenes!

not technically deleted, as I never wrote them originally. but they are tidbits of "bonus content", yes. :)

there are only two, but it was fun to slip 'em in there just like the show does.
