BSG: Sine Qua Non
HUMANITY IS DOOOMED!

After reading all the reactions earlier in the week I had a hard time actually sitting down to watching this one, expecting... I don't know, badness. But instead it was alternately game-changing and good and then totally WTF *cringe*?

Uneven? Yes, that's an excellent word. Or maybe it's because I don't much care for Lee? Or Romo? (And man, I say that as a person who has LOVED the politics stuff before.)

wow, and I thought the Colonies had the worst excuse for a governmental system before! Interim president while they form a committee to search a new candidate?????? WTF? President of the Colonies is like being a School Principal or Hospital President? Hell, you can tell it was designed by a bunch of people fifty years ago who had not frakkin clue what they were doing, can't you? (really, kudos, for that, show - it does really FIT that their system is so fucked up. But they need a NEW one desperately)

But in terms of this show, it's all so stupid. If it's up to Admiral Adama, just let him frakkin pick the candidate he'd prefer, otherwise it should be Zarek and Adama has to deal with him. He dealt with Baltar for a year after all (in some capacity at least). But then, the point isn't Zarek, it's that Zarek isn't Laura, I suppose. And really only Lee can get past that - nobody else would.

But then? Adama's not around, so what difference does it make? It's not like Tigh's not going to talk to Zarek.

President Leland Adama. Happened a bit earlier than I expected - I was hoping for more of the Zarek presidency and Lee as VP, but meh. After hearing how they cut out that Zarek was supposedly the one who sent those thuggish zealots after Baltar's cult, I was pretty resigned to the end of Zarek as a character who gets to do much of interest anymore. Pity. He was so wasted. Maybe he'll go back to terrorism and we can see Lee's pretty ideals get all crumbly?

Anyway what else?

awww Natalie. I thought she might pull it out, but no. And Cottle is moving up as the Fifth. Not for nothing they showed him holding her hand EXACTLY like Sam took the Eight's. er, probably. *g* (I'll stop, for the sake of the kittens!)

Athena ... Hera is her Sine Qua Non, that's for sure. oh honey, you are just ruining it all aren't you? (nice that Bill remembered Helo was missing too) But at least he let her have Hera to hold - he really is a big softie with his 'kids' isn't he?

So Pike bought it. A bit overdue, but yes. He has now paid for being such a dickhead on the Demetrius as several people seemed to want. So, there you go.

Racetrack going EVA to find him was pretty cool. As was the ship graveyard.

I am assuming Sam is with the missing ship? yes? Because he's been sadly missing lately.

OMG Tigh and Lee are in charge of what's left of humanity? That is hilarious. Humanity is so DOOOOMED.

GOod thing the Cylons can procreate after all.

THAT? Caprica being pregnant is awesome with awesomesauce. Because oh man, POSSIBILITIES. Best part of the episode.

And next week, looks AWESOME. Did you see how she...? YES. WHY couldn't Scifi threaten Sky until after NEXT week's?

Yeah, next week looks awesome. I didn't hate this week's ep, decent filler, but... O_o

I'm still not convinced that Natalie is gone for good. Of course, I could just be in denial because I love her and can't imagine why they would waste all that time developing her only to kill her off this early in the season.

And then there's Caprica. Is it more awesome for her to have Tigh's child and show us that the FF can procreate with other Cylons? Or is it more awesome for the timing between Baltar leaving the Cylons and now to be shorter than everyone is assuming so that head!Six's prophecy about hers and Baltar's child being born in that cell comes true? Poor Tigh was hallucinating so heavily during his visits to Caprica, and the cameras and microphones in the cell were turned off, that we don't honestly know if they ever frakked or not.

And something just occurred to me. If Caprica is pregnant with Tigh's kid, and next week's promo shows Three telling someone on that baseship that he/she is one of the FF (and it's not, of course, Sam, but rather Roslin, Baltar, or Helo), then my crack!case for Helo being the final Cylon is even stronger. Heh.

What you said. Her story arc isn't done, goddamnit. But I dont' think they were anywhere near a resurrection ship when she flatlined, so I'm not sure how they'd pull it off. That having been said, I WOULD TOTALLY REJOICE IF THEY SOMEHOW BROUGHT HER BACK. I'd even accept an improbable retcon.
lizardbeth: Helolizardbeth_j on June 1st, 2008 01:06 am (UTC)
I'm not convinced either about Natalie, not entirely. There's certainly a gap, since the Fleet doesn't actually know where any Res ships are. (or if they can operate without the hub at all, something I'm not clear about)

Well, Tigh didn't deny he and Caprica were doing it, and I'm sure he would've, very indignantly, as Bill realized. now whether he's really the daddy or Baltar I don't know. Show could go there, and I wouldn't hate it or anything. But how could it be Baltar - has he even SEEN her since the trial? And that was at least two months ago, plus we know it was months between Kara's death in maelstrom and her return, and Maelstrom was after Rapture. Would they EVER had private time together in that cell? Tigh has the authority to turn off the cameras; Baltar never would have.

Helo would in fact be kind of awesome, now that we have proof (well, probably) that the Five and Seven can have kids. in fact, I kind of wonder whether THAT won't turn out to be part of the Intra-Cylon Breeding Fault - when the Seven turned off their knowledge of the Five, they also did something to their systems that prevented getting each other pregnant. Or maybe that was the Cylon God's punishment for the split, somehow --- "You get your multiple copies and immortality, but youdon't also get to have children unless you learn the value of individual life." Something like that.

yes! Someone that agrees with me that Cottle is the Final Cylon. :)

and Saul/Six wow. That's just wild though when I saw Saul punch Adama during this week's promos I KNEW what the reason was.
lizardbeth: Six - blue dresslizardbeth_j on June 1st, 2008 12:52 am (UTC)
oh, I've long suspected Cottle was one, too. But then I suspect everybody, depending on what time of day it is. *g* But as Zarek has sunk on my list, Cottle goes up. I kind of don't want another old guy Cylon, but he does work.

Saul/Six - woot. I just LOVE it. I want to see more of it- it's so great, as a f'd up pairing, and also with the pregnancy. Caprica's always had a thing for kids, so it seems so fitting.

I need to find some fan fic of Saul/Six. :) I thought it was interesting that she called him Saul... so she knew that she was preggers.

selmak on June 1st, 2008 01:47 am (UTC)
though I was Tori, I'd be worried as it appears that the FF are working on all their cylinders as Saul Tighe and Galen Tyrol have got their mojo going. :D
lizardbeth: Six - blue dresslizardbeth_j on June 1st, 2008 05:00 am (UTC)
I'm wondering about Baltar myself ... if TIGH can get Caprica pregnant, but Baltar couldn't in three years... hm.

IS there Tigh/Six fic? Don't think I've seen any. Not that I've been looking...

I'm still a bit mourning the loss of the possible Sam/Caprica hookup. cuz even though I'm all over the Kara/Sam - I think Caprica/Sam could've been really interesting. If less messed up than Tigh/Caprica.

Interim president while they form a committee to search a new candidate?????? WTF? President of the Colonies is like being a School Principal or Hospital President?

Yeah, especially when you consider Roslin is DYING, and has been for a while, and someone might have thought about this? I guess no one counted on Adama not accepting the elected VP, so, instead they install his son. Go democracy! ;) And yeah, it didn't really matter since Adama stepped down anyway.

He has now paid for being such a dickhead on the Demetrius as several people seemed to want. So, there you go.

*Chastened*

*Sorta*

My glee at his death was purely feminist joy that they finally killed a man and had nothing to do with how annoying he was at all!
lizardbeth: Helolizardbeth_j on June 1st, 2008 04:40 am (UTC)
totally. It's not like it's a SURPRISE that Laura was going to die (sooner or later, and probably sooner given how far she's progressed with her cancer again) and what else is the vice-presidency FOR except to take over for the prez? And Lee "we need an election" Adama becoming president through military fiat just will never stop being funny.

Y'know, speaking of deaths, I think Romo should've died (though I'm pretty sure he'd going to make it out alive either). Or Romo could've killed Zarek - if they're not going to use Zarek they might as well use his death to get rid of him and move Lee into the position anyway. gah. But I remember reading some wanting Pike to be dead for whatever reason, so now he is.

And you know in principle, yeah, I agree with wanting more balance in body count. But at the same time... watch what you wish for, y'know? You want somebody male to bite it? Well, there's sheer numbers or there's weight - and somebody like Helo is going to carry a lot of emotional weight. *fears mightily for Helo suddenly* SO that's why I can't really get on the train, because I worry that we're building up for something that's going to level the field, but not by throwing minor characters under the bus...
Allison: Helo +Anders - Kara's boysfrolicndetour on June 1st, 2008 05:18 am (UTC)
I think Romo should've died

I heartily concur! He's such a Mary Sue. And yeah, killing Zarek would go down easier for me than side-stepping him.

But at the same time... watch what you wish for, y'know?

YES. Helo is right behind Sam in my list of Don't You Dare, You Bastards. The imbalance is striking, I just fear how they'll rectify it. So yeah, I was happy Pike died because he was annoying (to me) that's all. ;)
